“Life is rarely black and white, good or evil, heads or tails and neither are people. We aren’t opposite sides of the coin. We’re the coin itself.”

Querying

It’s something that every writer goes through who dreams of being traditionally published. It evokes images of editing and re-editing the perfect query letter, (approximately seven and a half billion times), devising a captivating hook, (after around fifty-eight hours of banging one’s head against the keyboard), and praying to the QueryTracker gods for the sweet, sweet joy of positive responses. The process is different for every writer—a mystical realm of learning and possibilities for some and a pit of despair for others. Regardless of what a writer may experience, one thing is for certain—the dream of seeing one’s book on bookshelves and the passion they have for the craft is the driving force behind it all.

So here I am once again, deep in the belly of the literary agent whale. After a short round of querying in 2022, I halted the process to focus on university. Words like ‘query hooks’ and ‘page counts’ were overshadowed by the occupational therapy terminology of ‘activities of daily living’ and ‘universal design’, but before long, the proverbial querying itch demanded to be scratched.

The process is one I keep widely to myself, but I’ll post updates here should anything big crop up.
